SPL Utorogu Limited is a Joint Venture company established in 2022 between Southfield Petroleum Limited and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCMDB) to execute the Utorogu Gas Processing Project. Southfield Petroleum Limited, incorporated in 2007 (RC No. 689735), was awarded a contract by the Federal Executive Council in July 2009 for the installation of supplementary gas treatment plants at Utorogu and Oben, to deliver bone-dry gas for enhanced power generation and safeguard the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS). In November 2009, Southfield signed a 25-year Agreement with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources for Rich/Wet Gas Treatment, Processing and Management. In 2014, Southfield signed a Gas Supply Processing Agreement with NPDC (NEPL) and ND Western for the processing of up to 300 MMSCFD of gas from the Utorogu fields (OMLs 34 and 38).

From a Federal Executive Council mandate to a fully structured Joint Venture, SPL Utorogu's journey is rooted in government partnership, indigenous capacity, and a commitment to delivering reliable gas infrastructure for Nigeria's power generation objectives.
- 2007: Foundation Southfield Petroleum Limited incorporated (RC No. 689735), establishing its expertise in Gas Processing Facility development in Nigeria.
- 2009: Federal Mandate Federal Executive Council approval received. A 25-year Agreement signed with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources for Rich/Wet Gas Treatment, Processing and Management at Utorogu and Oben.
- 2014: Gas Supply Agreement Gas Supply Processing Agreement signed with NPDC (NEPL) and ND Western to process up to 300 MMSCFD of gas from OMLs 34 and 38.
- 2022: SPL Utorogu JV Formed SPL Utorogu Limited established as a Joint Venture between Southfield Petroleum and NCMDB, with $83.1M in combined equity and debt financing secured to execute the project.
