Groundbreaking Ceremony of the SPL Utorogu 200MMSCFD Gas Processing Plant, Delta State

On behalf of the Board and Management of Southfield Petroleum Limited (SPL), SPL Utorogu Limited cordially invites stakeholders, government representatives, traditional rulers, host communities, and industry partners to the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the SPL Utorogu 200MMSCFD Gas Processing Plant, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 14 April 2026 at 11:30am at Utorogu, Delta State.

The Utorogu Gas Processing Plant is a Project of Public Interest. It represents a strategic investment designed to process wet gas into clean, lean gas suitable for efficient power generation, which will be re-injected into the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) to support Nigeria's domestic gas supply.

Annual Production Output

In addition to treated gas, the facility will recover valuable Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), producing approximately:

  • 123,000 Metric Tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • 22,000 Metric Tons of Propane
  • 72,000 Metric Tons of Condensate

These products are intended primarily for the Nigerian domestic market, improving access to cleaner energy for households and industries.

The project aligns strongly with the Federal Government's Decade of Gas Initiative, particularly in advancing domestic gas utilization, strengthening energy security, and expanding access to clean cooking fuels across Nigeria.

Phase 1 Completion: 30 November 2026

Phase 1 of the project is targeted for completion by 30 November 2026 and will include:

  • Installation and commissioning of the gas treatment facilities, including the Amine Unit and TEG Dehydration Unit for CO₂ and water removal.
  • Completion of a 1,200 metric ton LPG storage tank farm to support domestic LPG distribution.
  • Installation of key balance of plant systems, including firewater systems, instrument air systems, and safety infrastructure required for safe plant operations.
  • Integration of the treated gas stream into the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System to support reliable gas supply for power generation and industrial use.

Strategic Impact

This project reflects a successful public-private partnership aimed at:

  • Advancing the Federal Government's agenda for increased gas utilization and domestic energy security.
  • Expanding LPG availability for households and industries across Nigeria.
  • Promoting economic empowerment and social development within host communities.
  • Demonstrating the catalytic investment impact of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCMDB) in Nigeria's gas sector and the Niger Delta.

The ceremony will mark the official commencement of construction and will be attended by representatives of the Delta State Government, traditional rulers, host communities, industry stakeholders, and partners contributing to the success of the project.
